RGB COB LED strip – a seamless line of coloured light
The RGB COB LED strip is a modern solution for decorative and architectural lighting in indoor spaces. COB technology creates a smooth and uniform line of light without the clearly visible individual LED dots commonly associated with conventional LED strips.
The strip is available in two roll lengths: 10m and 25m. The shorter roll is suitable for residential installations and individual decorative zones, while the 25m version is intended for larger projects, long coves, fitted furniture and extensive commercial lighting installations.
Two roll lengths: 10m or 25m
Both versions have the same technical specifications and differ only in length:
- 10m roll – suitable for suspended ceilings, individual coves, furniture, shelving and smaller decorative installations;
- 25m roll – designed for larger rooms, long illuminated lines, commercial premises, reception areas, display windows and extensive fitted installations.
With a power consumption of 12W per metre, the nominal power of a complete roll is 120W for the 10m version and 300W for the 25m version. The power supply, controller and cable layout should be selected according to the actual installation length and the planned division into sections.
COB technology without visible LED dots
COB technology uses a very high density of light-emitting elements to create an almost continuous illuminated surface. This produces a considerably smoother effect than conventional SMD strips with clearly separated LED points.
A seamless line of light is particularly important in installations where the strip or aluminium profile remains visible. It is ideal for shallow LED profiles, under-cabinet lighting, shelves, display units and decorative illuminated gaps.
RGB coloured lighting
The strip uses RGB technology, producing a wide range of colours by combining red, green and blue light. When connected to a compatible RGB controller, it allows users to select colours, adjust their intensity and create dynamic effects or programmed lighting scenes.
Soft colour settings can create relaxing evening illumination in a living room or bedroom. More intense colours are suitable for parties, entertainment areas, teenagers’ rooms and commercial interiors.
The RGB strip is designed primarily for decorative coloured lighting. It does not include a separate white-light channel, so a white effect is produced by combining the RGB channels.
24V power supply for larger installations
The strip operates at 24V DC. Compared with 12V systems, this voltage makes it easier to design longer lighting sections and helps reduce voltage drop. However, it does not eliminate the need to plan the power supply points correctly.
The following components are required for operation:
- a 24V DC LED power supply;
- a controller compatible with RGB LED strips;
- suitable cables and, where necessary, signal amplifiers;
- an aluminium profile suitable for a 10mm-wide strip.
The power supply and controller should be selected with an appropriate reserve capacity. Larger installations may require several power connection points, division into shorter sections or additional RGB amplifiers.
How should a 10m or 25m roll be powered?
A long LED strip should not automatically be treated as a single section powered exclusively from one end. Longer runs may experience voltage drop, reduced brightness or differences in colour reproduction between the beginning and end of the installation.
The 25m version should be divided into practical sections according to the lighting design. Power can be supplied at several points, while the control system can be expanded using suitable amplifiers. The final configuration depends on the length of each section, controller capacity, cable cross-section and installation location.
Power consumption of 12W per metre
The strip consumes 12W/m. This value should be taken into account when selecting the power supply and RGB controller. The capacity of the power equipment should exceed the total load of the connected sections and include an appropriate safety margin.
For example, a complete 10m roll has a nominal load of 120W, while a 25m roll has a nominal load of 300W. This does not mean that the entire roll should be connected as a single circuit. For larger installations, dividing the strip into several independently powered sections may provide better results.
Aluminium profile for an RGB COB LED strip
Installation in a suitable aluminium profile is recommended. Aluminium helps dissipate heat, provides a stable mounting surface and protects the strip against accidental mechanical damage during everyday use.
A profile also provides a cleaner and more professional finish. It can be surface-mounted or recessed into furniture, ceilings, walls or plasterboard. The selected profile should accommodate an LED strip with a minimum width of 10mm.
Before installation, the profile surface should be thoroughly cleaned, degreased and dried. This improves adhesion and reduces the risk of the strip becoming detached during operation.
10mm-wide LED strip
The strip measures 10mm in width and approximately 3mm in height. Its compact dimensions make it suitable for a wide range of LED profiles, furniture installations, coves and decorative illuminated gaps.
The white backing blends discreetly with light-coloured profiles and fitted elements. Its low height helps create a subtle installation in which the continuous line of coloured light remains the main visible feature.
Wide 120° beam angle
The 120° beam angle distributes the light evenly across the illuminated surface. The strip can highlight walls, ceilings, furniture fronts and architectural elements without producing a narrow or highly focused beam.
The final lighting effect also depends on the depth of the profile, the type of diffuser and the distance between the strip and the illuminated surface.
Designed for dry indoor spaces
The IP20 rating means that the strip is intended for use in dry indoor environments. It should not be installed in locations exposed to direct contact with water, high humidity or changing weather conditions.
It can be used in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, teenagers’ rooms, offices, shops, restaurants and hotels. Bathrooms, wet kitchen zones and outdoor installations require LED strips and profiles with a suitable higher ingress protection rating.
